Does this sound familiar?

How much film do you use per pallet?

Every purchasing department knows the price of a kilogram of film. Usually nobody calculates the cost of securing one pallet. If any of these signs sounds familiar, measurements will show how much you are losing.

  • Pallets shift in transport

Complaints and damaged goods come back to you. The cause is the wrong choice of film.

  • Operators keep adding wraps

The load does not hold, so operators wrap the pallet more times. Every extra wrap means more film on every pallet, every day, all year round.

  • Stretch film consumption is rising

You know the price of film to the last cent, but you do not know how much wrapping one pallet really costs you.

  • Nobody has checked the working stretch since the stretch wrapper was installed

The stretch wrapper can work with a higher working stretch than today. Unused stretch means film thickness bought as a reserve.

  • Your product, pallet or route has changed

Yet the stretch wrapper settings and film thickness have stayed the same as several years ago.

  • You have a film tender ahead of you

With the measurements you can compare offers by the cost of securing one pallet. Without them you are left with the price per kilogram alone.

Sample calculation

How much do 50 g of excess film on a pallet cost?

100pallets a day
50 gof excess film on every pallet
250working days a year
1.25 tof film used beyond what is needed each year

That is how much film you buy as a reserve, because nobody has weighed a single pallet. This is a sample calculation; the audit will show your numbers.

How it works

Packaging audit - how does it work?

A packaging audit is a measurement of film consumption, the stretch wrapper's working stretch and load stability, carried out by our technologist on your shop floor. On this basis we match the film to your load and the stretch wrapper settings to your packaging process, so that the pallet is secured with the smallest amount of material.

What the visit looks like

  • The line runs as normal, with no preparation on your side.
  • We talk about measurements, and we only give a price when you ask for one.
  • The report stays with you, even if you do not buy from us.

Five measurements, one number.

Every measurement goes into the report with its value, date and method. Together they give the cost of wrapping one pallet.

  1. 01g / pallet

    Film consumption per pallet

We weigh the film removed from a representative pallet. This is the reference point for selecting the thickness.

  2. 02µm

    Actual film thickness

We measure it with a micrometer at 5 points on the roll. We compare the result with the declaration on the label.

  3. 03%

    Stretch wrapper working stretch

What working stretch the stretch wrapper delivers today, and what it could deliver. This determines the film thickness and the number of wraps.

  4. 04kN

    Load stability

We measure the film's containment force on the pallet corners, where the load moves in transport.

  5. 05s / pallet

    Wrapping time

We time it with a stopwatch for both hand and machine wrapping. Wrapping time affects the choice of film width and version.

KOP

Cost of Wrapping One Pallet

We reduce all five measurements to one number: how many euros it costs you to secure one pallet. The report gives your KOP, and after changing the film you can compare it with the result from before the audit.

Audit stages

How does the audit work?

  1. Stage 1 · 15 minutes

Stage 1: Request and phone call

You leave your e-mail in the form. We call you and ask about your process, volume and machines. Result: you know whether a visit from our technologist makes sense for you.

  2. Stage 2 · 90 minutes

Stage 2: Visit on the shop floor

Our technologist measures film consumption with the stretch wrapper running and tests different film variants on it. We do not stop production and do not take up people's time longer than necessary. Result: you have measurements from your shop floor, with method and date.

  3. Stage 3 · 5 days

    Stage 3: Report with recommendation

You receive your KOP, the film variant, thickness and stretch wrapper settings, with the measurements attached. Result: you have a recommendation in writing.

  4. Stage 4 · Your decision

    Stage 4: Test batch

If you wish, you test the recommended film on your stretch wrapper. If not, the report stays with you anyway. Result: you have film tested on your stretch wrapper or the report on its own.

Benefits

What do you gain?

Measurements from your packaging process show where you use more film than you need and what to change in the stretch wrapper settings.

  • Less film per pallet

We select the thickness and settings so that the load is stable with lower film consumption.

  • Less damage in transport

We check the containment force on the corners, where the load moves in the lorry.

  • Shorter wrapping

Fewer wraps and the right film width shorten the time needed to wrap one pallet.

  • Data in writing

The measurements with method and date stay with you, even if you buy from another supplier.

  • An argument in negotiations

You go into negotiations with the cost of wrapping one pallet (KOP), which you can compare with every film offer.

  • Less plastic in packaging

A lower film weight means a lower product fee and a step towards PPWR requirements.

What you get

What do you get after the audit?

The report specifies one film variant, one thickness and one set of stretch wrapper settings. We match them to your load and to how you pack day to day. You will also find out whether your stretch wrapper uses its working stretch range.

  • We give you your KOP: how many euros it costs to wrap one pallet.
  • We specify the film variant and thickness for your load.
  • We give you the stretch wrapper settings: working stretch and number of wraps.
  • We attach the measurements with method and date.
  • We state whether standard film or Power is the better choice.

Who it is for

For companies that pack dozens of pallets a day.

Four departments contact us most often. The report answers each of their questions.

  • Purchasing department

Wants to lower packaging costs and have hard data before negotiations or a tender.

  • Production manager

Responsible for the stretch wrapper settings, packaging time and keeping the line running.

  • Logistics and warehouse

Has had enough of pallets that reach the customer leaning or unwrapped.

  • Management and finance

Sees the rising cost of film and the product fee, but does not know where it comes from.

Power film

When standard film is not enough.

If the measurements show that standard film will not hold your load or that the stretch wrapper can stretch the film further, we recommend Power film. Power has five layers with added reinforcing polymers and a working stretch of up to 350%.

You can test a Power test batch on your stretch wrapper before you order a series.

To be fair

Who the audit is not for.

The audit is a visit from our technologist to your shop floor. We arrange it where the measurements have something to show.

  • Fewer than 20 pallets a day

We will select the film over the phone, without a visit.

  • Small quantities

Order in the online shop, no visit from a technologist is needed.

  • Only the lowest price per kilogram

The report shows the cost of wrapping one pallet and the film selection. If you only compare the price per kilogram, a request for quotation is enough.

  • A supplier contract for more than 12 months

Come back to us a quarter before the tender.

Questions

Questions about the packaging audit.

Is the packaging audit free?

Yes. The visit from our technologist, the measurements and the report cost nothing and do not oblige you to buy. We arrange them where the measurements have something to show, which is why we start with a short phone call.

Does packaging have to stop during the audit?

No. We measure with the stretch wrapper running, because only then do the results show how you pack day to day. The visit takes about 90 minutes.

Do I have to buy film from Dominopack after the audit?

No. The recommendation is yours and you can also use it with your current supplier. If you wish, we will prepare a test batch.

What exactly will I receive after the audit?

Report within 5 days: your KOP, i.e. the cost of wrapping one pallet, the recommended film variant and thickness, stretch wrapper settings (working stretch and number of wraps) and measurements with method and date.

Does an audit make sense for hand wrapping?

It does if you pack many pallets. We weigh the film and measure thickness and wrapping time. With fewer than 20 pallets a day we usually select the film over the phone, without a visit.
